Niykee is still writing songs despite having been swept up in the current crisis. Her selection was made to be part of the YouTube Brandcast by Snoop and Snoop was on stage with her. Her songwriting routine is now a source of inspiration for hopeful producers. Niykee is always listening to music and comes across beats that spark ideas. After five seconds, I know what a song is or not. After that, I have an idea of a song and begin writing it right away. My guitar sits on the porch, and I let the lyrics flow. The process usually takes about thirty minutes. Niykee keeps working on her abilities as a poet and lyricist. She says that the trauma she endured through the years can be a source of unusual inspiration. "Even in the absence of writing about my personal life it is the loss of my sister as well as my difficult childhood is incorporated into my songs," she says. This influences my music and helps to create this greater meaning under everything which is an important thing to me--I need to know that I can listen to any one of my music 20 years from now and still be proud of what I said.
